13/10/24 - Round Two of Birmingham County WF League.

Once again, a 'depleted' squad travelled to the West Midlands to fulfill another two fixtures in the Birmingham County Ladies Walking Football League. Taking just seven players (for seven-a-side games) is always going to be fraught with danger and so it proved on Sunday.
Literally five minutes into our first game against Hartshill Red, Kay fell awkwardly and had to be carried from the pitch in agony.
We were then faced with a quandary; carry on playing - but a player down - or concede that game (and the one immediately following) and drive home to get Kay to hospital.
With Kay's support, the Ladies decided to bravely play on, showing a terrific attitude.
When the match resumed, we took the lead - unbelievably - with an absolute stunner from Mandy Middlecote but were denied the win with an equaliser just before half time.
The second match against Kettering - played immediately following the first! - resulted in a 'backs to the wall' defensive (almost) masterclass, losing just 1-0.
Given the circumstances, I feel this was one of our finest days at Birmingham and we learned a lot in terms of the inner strength and team spirit of those present.
Despite the hard work and rigours of playing short-handed for nearly an hour, all the team were present on Monday night for another 90 minutes training. Massive kudos to all concerned and our very best wishes to Kay for a full recovery from what looks like possible ligament damage.
Team: Claire Morroll, Maria White, Karen Gill, Kay Beardsley, Mandy Middlecote, Clare Edgar, Kate Davis-Hill. Subs: None!
